Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Rotary Club of George. Whether you are considering joining our fellowship, looking for a partner for a community project, or are a member seeking to get more involved, we hope these answers provide the clarity you need.

General Information

What is the Rotary Club of George?

Chartered in 1951, we are a group of professional and business leaders in the Garden Route dedicated to "Service Above Self." We belong to a global network of 1.4 million members who take action to solve world problems and improve our local communities.

Where and when do you meet?

We meet every Tuesday at 17:30 for 18:00 at the George Golf Club, 16 C J Langenhoven Road. Meetings usually consist of a meal, club business updates, and often a guest speaker.

Do I have to be a business owner to join?

Not at all. While Rotary has its roots in business networking, today we welcome people from all vocations—including retirees, employees, and community leaders—who share a passion for service and high ethical standards.

Membership & Commitment

How do I become a member?

Membership is by invitation. However, the first step is simple: join us for a few meetings. This allows you to get to know our members and see our projects firsthand. If there is a mutual fit, a member will formally propose you for membership.

What is the expected time commitment?

Rotary is flexible. While we encourage regular attendance at our weekly meetings to foster fellowship, we understand that family and work come first. We simply ask that you stay active in at least one club project or committee throughout the year.

Are there costs involved?

Yes. Members pay annual dues, which cover our affiliation with Rotary International and District 9350, as well as club administration. Dinner at the Golf Club is an additional weekly cost for those who choose to eat. We strive to keep our fees accessible compared to many other professional organisations.

Still have questions?
